A jury in Dallas has ordered U-Haul to pay $84 Million to an injured man whose rented truck rolled over him when the parking brake failed.  The jury heard evidence of a pattern on the part of U-Haul of failing to maintain its vehicles after customers rented and drove them for thousands of miles.  U-Haul setted another case in February, involving the death of a San Francisco man who was crushed between a post and the rental truck when its parking brake failed.

The Dallas verdict included $63 million in punitive damages, which U-Haul's attorneys characterize as excessive.  It's just another example of corporate America placing profits above safety.
