ABCnews and other sources reported yesterday that there has been a class action lawsuit filed alleging that certain bras made by the popular retailer Victoria's Secret may be contaminated with formaldehyde or other chemicals causing rashes, welts, hives and excessive itching. InjuryBoard partner Mike Ferrara reported recently that some manufacturing plants in China and Latin America are putting formaldehyde in textiles and apparel. This may turn out to be a case where a company is not properly overseeing the manufacturing of its product, especially when the manufacturing has been outsourced overseas.

Heaven knows why you would put a chemical that can cause skin irritation in clothing, but with some of Victoria Secrets Angel bras causing skin irritations, rashes, and even permanent scarring, the devil is certainly in the details.

My daughter has been experiencing hives and severe itching for at least a year. We have been treating it as stress. My husband died suddenly in June and this has only increased her stress.

I want to have her bras tested. She wears the VS bras mentioned on the ABC webcast.

Can you direct us to how to test them?

Thank you all for your comments. Your number one concern should be your health. We encourage you to see a doctor regarding the skin irritation, rashes, etc. that you are experiencing. Mention your concerns that the skin irritation may be due to chemicals, such as formaldehyde. Also, make note of any changes in soap or laundry detergent that you may have had recently.

We do not know all of the bra styles in question as of yet, but do know that these two styles were mentioned in the original lawsuit:
Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme Me Push-Up

I usually wear the same style of VS bra (Body by Victoria uplift) without trouble. However, two or three that I purchased exude a chemically odor when worn for 2+ hours, especially when hot or sweating. Is this the formaldehyde that I'm smelling? I've used the same all natural/organic soaps, lotions, deodorant, etc. for years, so am disinclined to think these are the cause. Also, how long have women been experiencing the skin irritations: within the last few weeks/months, or few years? Thanx for your help and information.

i work for a victorias secret, dont get me wrong im not a spokes person for the company or anything, i didnt even see the recall on tv so im not sure what people are acutally saying about it.
but in my store we are taking back the bra.
from the Angels collection its the secret embrace push up.. i believe the formalehyde is in the pushup part of the bra, so if you own just the lined one (w/o push up) i dont believe the comapany is taking those back. you just bring in your bra and they are supossed to give you full price cash back. all of the other bras are safe. this angels secret embrace has been discontinued in the store for months
