Bridge collapse in Minneapolis results in 4 deaths

A bridge between Minneapolis and St. Paul that was under repair collapsed Wednesday during the evening rush hour, killing at least 4 people. The Interstate 35W bridge collapsed for unknown reasons, although the U.S. Homeland Security Department, as of last night, had given no indication of there being any relationship with acts of terrorism.

At least fifty vehicles are believed to have fallen into the water below the bridge. The rescue scene was bedlam, as rescue workers struggled to help people on the roadway and those that had fallen into the gorge. The original death estimates were 6, but officials revised that estimate today to 4, with 20-30 people still missing. The Federal government on Thursday released a $5 million grant to assist with cleanup and repair efforts.
