Three Navy Sailors Missing After Plane Crash

On Wednesday, August 15, a command and control plane crashed over the Atlantic while the E-2C Hawkeye was conducting exercises off the Virginia-North Carolina coast. Now 3 Navy sailors are missing at sea.

The plane crashed after it launched from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Navy officials said.

Navy officials have announced that they do not know what caused the plane to crash and search and rescue teams have already started to try and find the fallen plane and its missing passengers. Rescue teams have been deployed from units on the Truman, the carrier USS Eisenhower and the Coast Guard.

The plane normally holds a crew of five, but thankfully on Wednesday night only 3 sailors were aboard the plane.

The plane was part of a training squadron, VAW 120, and is based at the Naval Station Norfolk in southern Virginia.
